Under the New Companies Ordinance, will the transparency of the Hong Kong companies increase or decrease their privacy?

The second phase of the company search arrangements on the Companies Register under the Companies Ordinance (Cap. 622) will come into effect on 24 October 2022.

Starting from that date, the protected information contained in the Director's Index in the Companies Register (including the director's residential address, identity card and passport number, etc.) will no longer be available for public search. For the public to check company registration documents, if the content is related to protected information, correspondence address will be used instead, or only part of the identity card number will be displayed. Protected data can only be obtained by a "specified person" lodged with the Companies Registry.
